A colourful piece of postage history finds a new setting in this NoTypical tee.

The design takes inspiration from the 32p British board-games stamp, issued on 16 May 1989 as part of the Europa: Games and Toys series. Created by designer Dan Fern, the original artwork brings several familiar game elements together within the compact space of a postage stamp.

Games and Toys was the shared theme for that year’s Europa issue, with participating European postal administrations offering their own interpretations. Britain’s contribution featured four stamps exploring different kinds of toys and games. The 32p design focused on board games, using a bold arrangement of shapes and colours to express the theme.

A large white die sits at the centre of the composition, surrounded by a winding green snake, a yellow ladder and colourful playing pieces. A bright blue background meets orange-and-black checks, while curved forms interrupt the straight lines of the board. The overlapping elements give the artwork a sense of movement, capturing the changing positions and unpredictable turns of a game in progress.

The snake and ladder make a clear reference to Snakes and Ladders, while the die and counters connect the composition to board games more broadly. Together, these familiar objects give the stamp its distinctive character without depicting one complete game.

On the tee, the artwork sits within a light-coloured rectangular front panel. The black base provides a clear contrast to the vivid colours, keeping the composition prominent. Its framed presentation preserves the reference to postage design while adapting the artwork to NoTypical’s streetwear.
